| HISTORY OF THE GAME The game of Mancala is among those ancient games that last and last because the rules to play are simple, but the subtleties of winning take a long time to master. Many historians believe that Mancala is the oldest game in the world. The word Mancala means "to transfer" in Arabic and that is exactly how you play; you transfer, or move, playing pieces from one pit to another. There are many different variations to Mancala and both young and old enjoy the very tactile feel of the game. This is our version and we hope you thoroughly enjoy it. These pictures follow a game in progress that ends in a draw: |

ABOUT OUR MANCALA GAME
We make our playing boards from carefully selected knotty pine (18 3/4" long, 5 1/4" wide, 3/4" thick) that we carefully rout,
edge, sand and seal with Tung oil. The 48 playing pieces (with a couple of spares thrown in) are smooth glass beads that make
for both a pleasurably tactile and safe way to play, especially for young
children.Full colour instructions in both français and English are included. There are four different sets of rules - General, Egyptian, Ethiopian and Nigerian - ranging in skill level from simple to expert so you should be up and playing in minutes. While there is no colour significance to the beads, we will attempt, supplies permitting, to select the bead colours of your preference. If you wish to make your own board, we sell a set of 52 glass beads for $15 (inc. tax). Cheques only, please. (contact info) ABOUT US We do a lot of woodworking with our father. We take safety very seriously and wear eye and ear protection and use a very effective dust extraction system. Over the last 3 years we have made solid cedar boxes, small nik-nak shelves and more than 100 Mancala games. We hope that you enjoy the game and come back for more! Many thanks, ..… Siân
and Samuel
