Alder "Window" Shadow Picture Frames

These rectangular frames are made of solid alder, 1 1/4" thick and range in width from 1 1/2" to 2 1/2". They are constructed using traditional rail and style joinery with rabbet to accept a solid back. This produces a strong frame that looks like a sash window that fully surrounds and encloses the artwork. The paintings are mounted into the front cavity with a 3/16" box shadow reveal. The artwork is screwed to the back that also sports the mounting hardware. The front cavity recess is matched to the thickness of the painting such that the artwork mounts ~1/8" proud of the surrounding frame.

The frames are finished with several coats of Danish oil with a satin wax top coat to bring out the beautiful grain and colours of the wood.

Cherry and Alder "Window" Frame

These rectangular frames are made of solid alder and cherry and are 2 1/2" wide and 1 1/2" and 1" thick respectively. They are constructed using traditional rail and style joinery to produce a frame that looks like a sash window. The paintings are mounted from behind and are completely captured within a deep narrow rabbet around the inside of the frame. The inside edge of the frame is lightly relieved with a gentle round-over. The corner joinery is glued and further strengthened with plugged screws.
The frames are finished with three coats of Danish oil with a satin wax top coat to bring out the beautiful grain and colours of the wood.

Small Pine Shadow Box Frame

This square shadow box frame, made in pine and maple, incorporates a deep shadow box and reveal to elegantly present a painting. Large feature mitre-joined moulding is used to border the art work and the frame edges are grooved to lighten its visual weight. The back of the frame is fully enclosed to offer both strength and protection to the back of the painting. The frame is supplied with simple mounting hardware and the frame is final sanded to accept a wide variety of customer-applied finishes such as varnish, stain and solid colour.

Outside measurements are 18 3/4" H x 18 3/4" W x 1 1/2" D to house a 12" x 12" x 1" canvas.

Large Oak Shadow Box Frames

These large shadow box frames, made in solid oak and maple veneer features a deep shadow reveal to elegantly frame and present a canvas.
The fully enclosed construction provides both frame strength and protection to the back of the painting. The frame is made using laminations of large contour oak moulding and solid oak with a full size maple veneer plywood back. The mitered corner joints are triple reinforced using glue, reinforcing blocks and corner braces.
The frame is final sanded to 400 grit (very fine!) and made ready to accept a wide variety of customer-applied finishes such as varnish, stain and solid colour.
Supplied with simple wall-mounting hardware

Made in solid oak, solid back and reinforced corners.

Made in solid oak, profiled top, solid back in double rebate and reinforced corners.

Greg Manley and his spouse, Janice McFarlane, at the opening of Agora Gallery DEGREES OF ABSTRACTION exhibition, April 2003, where several pieces of Greg's abstract artwork mounted within WOODSGOOD solid oak shadow frames were showcased.
The frames were painted gloss black and dark blue so that the oak grain is fully visible. Nice!

This square shadow box frame, made in mahogany and maple venner, incorporates a deep shadow box and reveal to elegantly present a painting. Large feature mitre-joined moulding is used to border the art work. The back of the frame is fully enclosed to offer both strength and protection to the back of the painting. The frame is supplied with simple mounting hardware and finished with three coats of Tung oil and a hand-rubbed paste wax.

Outside measurements are 18" H x 18" W x 1 1/2" D to house a 12" x 12" x 7/8" canvas.
