Bar-Height White Oak Table and Chairs

Built for outdoor use, this set of bar-height white oak table and chairs grace any patio or pergola with sleek graceful lines, comfortable seating and plenty of table space for food and drinks.

The chairs sport a comfortable slatted seat, a foot rail positioned to remove pressure on the inside of the knee and an angled back that provides comfortable lumbar support. The thin curved arm rests accommodate tall and short alike and lighten the visual look of the chair.

The table has the same footprint as and matches the tall, thin elegance of the chairs and sized to accommodate up to four chairs. It has a 6.6 square feet slatted top with gently curved edges to soften the appearance and allow the table to be drawn close to the chairs.

Octagonal Table Top

Commissioned for the Canadian Forces Health Services 100th Anniversary,
Petawawa, Ontario

This commission called for a large octagonal table top and legs mounted onto a white oak wine barrel to be presented as a memorial gift for the centennial celebration of the Canadian Forces Health Services. The barrel serves as a "time capsule" and is filled with memorabilia from the past 100 years of service. The time capsule and table were unveiled on the 9th July 2004 in the Normandy Officers Mess at Canadian Forces Base Petawawa.

The top is stained with a large cross in the Corps red and green colours and the eight facets of the apron include cap badges and coins from various periods in the Corps history. One of the facets is engraved with the names of the contributors to this project from Petawawa and the 9 July 2004 date of the centennial celebration.

The apron consists of eight red oak facets that are mitered and biscuit jointed together. The red oak veneer plywood core top is captured within a groove that runs around the inside of the facets. Below table bracing provides extra support for the apron and allows the table to be bolted securely to the barrel. A set of 4" thick, 2 1/2" wide cross-braced legs, in solid oak, are similarly bolted to the base for support.

The table top measures 48" wide and 7" high and is finished with 3 litres of poured epoxy resin clear coat. All solid wood pieces are finished with a fruitwood stain, Danish oil and several coats of polyurethane varnish.

Walnut and Maple Nesting Tables

Featured on cover and as lead furniture project of Canadian Home Workshop, April 2004

This set of contemporary nesting tables fits nicely amongst both dark and lighter furniture to provide much needed additional surfaces in any room. Each of the tables has a beveled solid walnut top, a jointed maple frame and walnut inlaid tapered maple legs. The smallest table also houses a full-depth birds eye maple fronted drawer that slides smoothly on hardwood runners. As with all custom WoodsGood furniture items, these tables are constructed with solid, hidden joinery to provide uninterrupted clean, crisp lines.
The larger table measures 26" L x 22" H x 15" W and the smallest 14" L x 14" H x 15" W. All three tables are finished in Danish oil and satin liquid wax.

Mahogany Drawing Room Table

Featured on cover and as lead furniture project of Canadian Woodworking, November 2003

An open-frame curved apron drawing room table in solid mahogany side table that shows some distant "art nouveau" inspiration.  The organic shape of the table is created by a series of matching nested curves that produce a light visual appearance.

Face aprons are cut from single boards and opened with sweeping curves to create a light and smooth look. The face frames are braced with two aprons: the upper a scaled version of the face and a lower single arch. The legs are also curved along their length. The top is solid mahogany cut with curved ends and angled sides to blend into the sweep of the leg curves.

Pined mortise & tenon and dowel joinery provide a seamless look and significant frame strength.  Sliding brackets attach the solid top to the frame to allow for seasonal movement. The piece is finished in low-lustre tung oil with a protective varathane lacquer.  Measures 40" L x 17" W x 31" H

Mahogany Bow Leg Coffee Table

Watch this space for photographs of the next addition to the "Organic" series - a bow leg coffee table. The curved shape of the table is created by a series of matching curves in the apron, legs and angled cut top to produce a light visual appearance. Made in solid mahogany the design complements the features of the open-frame curved apron drawing room table.

Drawing Room Table

A simple contemporary design with sharp yet fine lines made from quilted maple and mahogany.  The sharply tapering legs splay from the skirt at a pleasing shallow angle in both directions giving the table a light, stark look. 
Pined mortise & tenon joinery provides frame strength and allows for seasonal movement of the solid mahogany top.

Based on the larger Drawing Room Table, this contemporary design shows the simple and fine elegance of sharp lines.  The heavily tapered maple legs splay from the skirts at 5 degrees while the simple mahogany and maple top adds to the lightness of the design.

The piece is finished in high-lustre oil with a protective varathane lacquer.

Small Birds Eye Maple & Mahogany Drawing Room Table

Based on the small Maple and Mahogany Drawing Room Table, this piece shows the simple and fine elegance of sharp lines.  The heavily tapered maple legs splay from the skirts at 5 degrees creating a light but sharp look.  An oil finished solid mahogany top adds texture, colour and contrast to the maple. The beautifully figured birds eye maple apron skirt adds a contrasting depth and texture to the piece. 
Pined mortise & tenon joinery provides frame strength and allows for seasonal movement of the solid top.
The piece is finished in low-lustre oil with a final protection of bees-wax..

Pine and Porcelain Bedside Table

This pair of bedside tables sports a top and shelf in porcelain set into a pine frame. 
Mortise & tenon joinery is used for each of the 4 panels that are splined and mitered together to form the frame.  The mitered top provides the reveal for the limestone panel..
The piece is finished with a golden oak stain with a protective varathane lacquer.

Pine and Porcelain Bedside Table

This pair of bedside tables also sports a top and shelf in porcelain set into a pine frame.

Pine Bedside Table

This bedside table sports a light open frame with a solid top and a single  deep, wide drawer and a secret!
A hidden latch allows the solid pine top to be removed to gain access to two secret compartments for those special treasures. 
Mortise & tenon joinery is used in each of the 3 raised panels and drawer rails around the top and for each of the leg stretchers.  The piece is finished with a clear protective varathane lacquer to emphasize the continuous grain patterns around the frame.
